Fulshear council certifies May 3 election returns, administers oaths to incoming councilmembers

Fulshear Mayor Don McCoy on May 13 signed an ordinance canvassing the returns of the city's May 3, 2025 general election and presided over a ceremony issuing certificates and swearing in newly elected councilmembers.

The council unanimously approved Ordinance No. 2025-14-89, described in the motion as "an ordinance canvassing the returns and declaring the results of the general election of the City of Fulshear, Texas held on 05/03/2025 for the purpose of electing 4 council members to fill District 1, District 4, District 5, and at-large positions." After the vote the council recessed briefly for a certificate-and-oath ceremony.

During the ceremony the following took the oath of office: Sarah B. Johnson for District 1, Richard Russell for District 4 and Abhijit for District 5. Each repeated the statutory oath in substantially identical language used in the ceremony: for example, Sarah B. Johnson said, "I, Sarah b Johnson, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will faithfully execute the duties of the office of City of Fulshear District 1 Council Member... So help me God." The council recorded the oaths and signatures following the statements.

Mayor McCoy read the ordinance language into the record and called for the motion to approve; the clerk recorded the motion, a second and a voice vote, after which he announced, "Motion carries." The meeting minutes and the signed certificates will serve as the formal record of the canvass and the swearing-in.

The action completed the certification process for the May 3 election and allowed the council to seat the newly elected members and proceed with the evening's remaining business.
