The Carbondale Latino Community Committee approved the minutes for March and postponed formal consideration of an application for committee membership until the applicant can attend in person.
At the start of new business a committee member moved to approve the March minutes; another member seconded the motion and the minutes were adopted. Later, during review of a membership application, members said they preferred to meet the applicant before taking a vote. “Lo que voy a hacer entonces es voy a mover la aplicación para el siguiente mes y le voy a pedir a ella que venga para que la pueda…,” a member said; committee members agreed to defer and requested the applicant attend the next meeting to introduce herself.
The committee also discussed local outreach events. Members planned staffing for a town “open house” scheduled for April 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., where residents can learn about commissions and submit applications; several members volunteered time slots and the committee arranged to have informational materials in Spanish available. Committee members emphasized the value of the open house to reach Spanish‑speaking residents and talked about paid Facebook promotion the committee had already arranged to publicize the event.
The meeting concluded with the chair adjourning at 8:20 p.m.
