Commission hears Lott House repair status; museum curator hired and AAPI event planned

Parks staff told the Oroville Parks Commission on May 13 that the final outstanding work on the Lott House contract is replacing the baluster and the railing atop the entrance portico.
A parks staff member said, "The last bit of repairs to happen for the lot house ... is the baluster and the railing on top of the entrance portico. That's all that's left on that contract." The staff member added that contractors will try "to use as much of the original as they can" when feasible.
Commissioners also discussed electrical work and lighting at the Chinese temple area; staff said they would "look into that and get back to you" about coordinating repairs with other lighting work. A parks staff member noted coordination with public works and the city electrician had been part of earlier planning.
Separately, the commission heard that the museum has hired a new curator. "The new curator, Vanessa, is on board," a commission member said, and commissioners said they will host a meet-and-greet with docents in June. The commission also announced a free Asian American and Pacific Islander Month event organized by a new docent on Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the museum and the Lott House will offer free admission that day and the Hmong Cultural Center will perform.
Staff said the website is being overhauled and that some online pages, including an older parks master plan draft, may be out of date during the migration.
