The presentation, led by Angela Wong, City project manager, described the study’s purpose as “identifying access and safety improvements, specifically for people walking and biking to and from the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station,” and emphasized that the study’s immediate recommendations focus on improvements the city can implement in the public right-of-way while noting some future improvements would require coordination with Caltrain property owners.
City staff and consultants said the outreach effort produced nearly 200 completed questionnaire responses and almost 90 items on an interactive map identifying problem locations. Monica (deputy project manager with the consultant team) summarized that the top community priorities were safer crossings at the tracks, better and more-protected bicycle lanes, closing sidewalk gaps, improved bike parking, and enhanced lighting.
