Pharr swears in commissioners Carrillo, Caballero and Chavez

The Pharr City Commission on Monday administered the oath of office to Commissioners Bobby Carrillo (Place 2), Armida Caballero (Place 3) and Daniel Chavez (Place 4) during a regular meeting presided over by Mayor Ambrosio Hernandez.

The swearing-in ceremony, part of the meeting's administrative business, was conducted by Judge Fred Garza and Judge Joe Ramirez. Following the oaths, commissioners and the mayor offered brief remarks thanking voters, family and staff for their support; Carrillo noted he is beginning his fifth term and said he has served about 17 years in local office.

The oath for Place 2 was administered by Judge Fred Garza. The commissioner sworn at that time thanked the community and city staff and said he looks forward to serving another term. Armida Caballero recited the oath for Place 3 and thanked family and colleagues after the oath. Judge Joe Ramirez administered the oath for Place 4 to Daniel Chavez, who offered remarks praising the commission’s work and congratulating colleagues on their recent campaigns and re-elections.

Aside from the oaths, the commission took two brief procedural motions: a motion to excuse a member from the session, which was seconded and approved by voice vote, and a motion to adjourn, which also passed by voice vote at the close of the meeting. The agenda included the pledge of allegiance and an invocation before the administrative items.

The meeting lasted roughly 20 minutes and was largely ceremonial and procedural: oaths of office, short congratulatory remarks from commissioners, and routine motions to excuse a member and to adjourn. Commissioners indicated their intent to continue work on city business in their new terms.

The commission invited attendees to join for brief comments and refreshments after adjournment.
