The Woodstock Mayor and Council voted May 12 to grant a five‑year extension of variances and other entitlements tied to an annexation and rezoning for a proposed medical office building at the northwest corner of Highway 92 and Ragsdale Road.
Planning staff member Miss Menard told council the annexation and rezoning remain in place but, under current rules, variances attached to the approval would expire unless a project commences within 18 months. The applicant — a healthcare developer that described prioritizing expansion at the nearby hospital campus — requested a five‑year extension so the project could be timed with other Cherokee County investments. Staff confirmed a demolition permit was pulled in March 2024 but no building permits or plan‑review submittals have been filed yet.
The Development Plan Committee reviewed the request and recommended approval with two conditions: that staff verify and require updated traffic counts and mitigation measures if counts have changed, and that the applicant submit a plat combining the parcels associated with the project. The applicant said the developer is focusing resources on hospital campus growth and expects to return within five years when timelines allow.
One council member recused from the vote (Councilmember Collins). Councilman Aiken moved to approve the extension with staff‑recommended conditions; Councilman Potts seconded. The extension passed 4 to 0 with one abstention (Collins) and one absence (Wolf).
