Committee forwards contracts for Grand Haven Courthouse caulking and public-health clinic ADA remodel

Vargo said the existing caulking has exceeded its life cycle and the new silicone product is expected to last about 20 years, compared with the current 5–10 year material. Commissioners recorded a roll-call vote and the motion passed.
For the public-health clinic ADA remodel: County facilities staff described plans to renovate exam rooms, restrooms and the lobby, create a mothering room, replace and widen doorways for wheelchair access and bring areas up to current universal-design standards. Staff said the building was constructed in 1987 and restroom facilities had not been renovated since then. The project design phase will produce construction documentation and an RFP for contractors; staff said construction likely would not begin until October, after design and the RFP process.
Why it matters: the courthouse caulking addresses building envelope and water intrusion concerns; the ADA remodel aims to improve accessibility for clinic clients, including doorway widening and restroom upgrades to meet current accessibility and universal-design standards.
