Committee members said the draft cleaned up several provisions and removed two clauses they found objectionable: language that would require a commissioner up for reappointment to have prior approval of the parks commission, and language that would have the parks commission screen applicants and submit only two names to the Board of Commissioners. Members called those provisions an overreach inconsistent with existing appointment practice.
The committee approved the revised bylaws by voice vote and forwarded them to the full Board of Commissioners. Committee materials describe the changes as procedural clarifications and a cleanup of existing rules; members said most edits were noncontroversial.
No financial changes or appointments were included in the motion.
