Ways and Means introduces dozens of BDRs; committee approves moving them forward by voice vote

The Assembly Committee on Ways and Means recorded the introduction of a large number of bill draft requests (BDRs) and approved moving them into the drafting process by a committee voice vote.
At the start of the meeting the chair announced there were 20 BDR introductions planned; during the session members added eight more. The committee chair read a list of the BDRs and the subject for each, including appropriations for the stale claims, emergency, and contingency accounts; appropriations for extradition costs; several supplemental appropriations for corrections, child welfare and other departments; appropriations for election systems; equipment and security needs for multiple agencies; education surveys and grants; and changes relating to taxation and Medicaid. The chair said the vote to accept the list would not be a policy vote but would simply move the items into the BDR process for later hearings.
Vice Chair Backus moved to accept the BDR introductions and Majority Leader Hategui seconded. The committee took a voice vote; the chair called for ayes, then asked if there were any opposed and declared the motion carried.
During public comment Kent Ervin of the Nevada Faculty Alliance thanked the committee for introducing BDRs on campus safety at NSHE campuses and on cost-of-living adjustments, and he noted recent inflation data with potential implications for state employees.
The meeting adjourned with the chair noting future committee work would continue the budget and bill process.
