Commissioners back resolution inviting U.S. interior secretary to keynote 2026 JOLT Energy Summit

Moffat County commissioners voted May 13 to approve Resolution 2025-48, a county-level request that the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, Doug Bergman, serve as keynote speaker at the 2026 JOLT (Joint Organizations Leading Transition) Energy Summit.
Ray Beck, chair of the JOLT committee, outlined the group's mission to advocate for energy-impacted communities, communicate the benefits of an all-of-the-above energy economy and educate the public about energy diversity. Beck named organizing members and partner counties and said early, coordinated county resolutions and letters would strengthen outreach to the secretary’s office and federal partners.
Beck asked commissioners to sign a common invitation and noted several northwest Colorado counties had already signed or financially supported the JOLT committee and summit. The resolution asks for a keynote address and suggested the secretary might also meet with local officials on public-lands, water and energy topics if his schedule allows. Commissioners voted to approve the resolution.
Beck said the committee planned the 2025 summit in Rifle and a potential 2026 summit at Colorado Mesa University and emphasized county cooperation for federal-level outreach. The resolution carries no county financial commitment as described in the meeting.
