The Board of Education of Greeley School District No. 6 voted 6-0 on May 12 to approve tentative agreements to be incorporated into the district's certified master contract, including adoption of updated salary schedules for 2025'26.
The agreements were presented to the board as tentative negotiated changes to contract language, committee work plans and compensation schedules. A district negotiator and an association negotiator summarized the work, and the board approved the motion without amendment.
Why it matters: The tentative agreement will raise the district's starting teacher salary, adjust the certified salary schedule and add a formal step-off leadership schedule to the contract, changes the negotiators said are intended to keep District 6 competitive in Northern Colorado and to reward retention and horizontal advancement.
The association negotiator told the board that the new starting salary on the schedule is $53,040 and that the top of the updated certified schedule is “over $121,000.” The negotiators said the agreement includes a 2% increase to the base of the certified salary schedule; negotiators characterized the package as averaging a 4.3% raise for teachers when combined with step and column movement and other adjustments. The presentation also listed a new step-off leadership schedule that will be added to the contract to make leadership pay visible in the contract language.
Negotiators said the contract update includes four continuing committees (time and learning; systems of support; alternative/new teacher support/retention; and compensation) and plans to maintain late-start Mondays and expand training on responding to disruptive student behavior. The negotiators said the district will continue to support systems that include BEST teams and that some working groups will move into Innovation 2030 retention work.
Board members asked about details in the salary matrix and benefit costs. A district representative said the district will continue to provide the existing employer-paid health option: "we were able to keep NICE Healthcare at no cost to employees," a point raised during the presentation and Q&A.
The motion on the tentative agreements was moved and seconded (mover/second not specified in the record). Roll-call votes were recorded as: Director Azari (Aye), Director Bentley (Aye), Director Campos Spitzy (Aye), Director Mash (Aye), Director Matthews (Aye), Director Sullivan (Aye). The motion carried 6-0.
The negotiators said the association's membership subsequently voted to ratify the tentative agreements during its ratification process.
Board action: The vote approves incorporation of the tentative agreements and updated salary schedules into the district master contract as presented; ratification by union membership and final contract processing were described as the next steps.
Looking ahead: If final ratification and administrative processing proceed as described, the updated salary schedules and contract language will appear in communications to staff and be implemented for the 2025'26 school year, negotiators said.
