Gracie Gioia, the Altoona Area School District student representative to the board, gave a closing report summarizing student activities and announced she will attend Juniata College to study political science and legal studies.
Gioia highlighted recent student trips and activities: the music department's trip to Disney World with performances, field trips to Lincoln Caverns and the Horseshoe Curve, an executive committee trip to a Pittsburgh Pirates game, leadership program participation through Leadership Blair County, art recognitions at the Altoona Women's Club and a K–12 art display in the Science Commons. She noted that prom, senior week (May 19–23) and graduation (May 30 at Mansion Park at 6 p.m.) are upcoming events.
Gioia thanked the board for the opportunity to observe and report on district governance and encouraged families to attend end-of-year events. She also noted summer opportunities for students: a Galapagos trip led by district staff, summer school and a summer running camp for grades 4–8 in preparation for cross country.
The superintendent and board members thanked Gioia for her service; the board wished her well in college.
