Altoona teacher Jessica Hogan named 2025 Judith A. Rossi Educator of the Year

The Altoona Area School District recognized Jessica Hogan, science teacher and science department chair at Altoona Area High School, as the district nd community'025 Judith A. Rossi Educator of the Year.
The award, sponsored by the Del Grosso family of companies, recognizes educators directly affiliated with the Blair County educational community who have made a positive impact on students, schools or the educational system in ways that also benefit the local business community.
Mr. Neely, who introduced Hogan, said Hogan began her career in the Stevens Building and the Kimmel program, moved to junior high and then joined the high school staff when ninth grade moved to the high school. Neely noted Hogan oversees the student council, ran the Golden Gala and manages the school store, and described her as a leader in the science department.
Hogan told the board she was "overwhelmed" and "speechless" when notified of the nomination and said she accepts the award on behalf of many hardworking colleagues. She also identified herself as the science department chair and noted she has taught in the district for 28 years and is proud to be an Altoona teacher.
Board members praised Hogan s a leader and an example of district spirit. The board also noted a recent student project: Hogan worked with a class to plant tulip bulbs in front of Altoona Area High School.
Background: The Judith A. Rossi award recognizes staff who demonstrate sustained contributions to student life and to the broader community; the award is named for a former educator. Hogan will be recognized at a June ceremony as part of the award process.
