Lincoln Park Farmers Market to distribute vegetable seed packs for low-income residents

Lincoln Park — Leslie Lynch Wilson, speaking during Citizens Communications on May 12, announced a vegetable seed distribution for low-income families and individuals to be held at the Lincoln Park Public Library on May 13 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The organizers, supported by an annual grant from Wayne Metro, will distribute one bag per person or family containing 10 different seed packets including carrots, multiple lettuces, two types of tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, cucumbers, kale and basil. Distribution is income-based and requires completion of a simple form, Wilson said. The Lincoln Park Preservation Alliance will offer petunia seeds for sale at the event.

Wilson framed the distribution as a way to help households offset high food prices by starting home gardens. "This year, we decided to purchase these to distribute so people could start gardens to feed themselves since food prices are so high," Wilson told the council. She asked residents to share the event details with neighbors and family.
