Committee approves $10,000 transfer to Marion County Recorder for microfilm scanner

The Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee on Monday approved a $10,000 transfer in the 2025 budget of the Marion County Recorder’s Office to purchase a replacement microfilm scanner.
Faith Kimbrough, Marion County Recorder, said the office uses the scanner daily to serve title searchers and surveyors who need records that are not searchable in the public online index. Kimbrough and staff described the existing scanner and showed a vendor invoice; the vendor has been vetted and approved by the purchasing department, the recorder said.
A staff presenter explained the Recorder’s 2025 budget allocations and said the office has sufficient funds in its operating columns to move $10,000 from character 3 to character 4 to cover the purchase. Committee members asked whether digitization or AI tools might bridge the gap for older records; staff said vendors with advanced OCR/AI tools are being evaluated but the microfilm scanner remains necessary for now.
The motion to approve the fiscal transfer (Proposal 167) carried by voice vote.
