Committee postpones one market board appointment, approves three others

The Metropolitan and Economic Development Committee postponed one nomination to the Indianapolis City Market Corporation board and approved three others during its meeting Monday.

The committee postponed action on Proposal 141, a nomination of Victoria Beatty to the Indianapolis City Market Corporation board, after a clerk discrepancy was noted between the agenda wording and the proposal packet. The committee later approved Proposal 142, the reappointment of Barney Levengood, and approved two additional items reappointing Craig Mints and appointing Nora Spitznoggle to the board.

The move to postpone the Beatty nomination was made after a councilor called out a discrepancy between the agenda entry (which read “appointment”) and the proposal form (which indicated a reappointment). Committee members asked the clerk to note the mismatch before taking formal action. A motion to postpone Proposal 141 was made and carried.

Proposal 142 was moved for approval by Councilor Ron Gibson and seconded; the motion carried. Craig Mints introduced himself briefly when Proposal 143 came up, saying he was “very excited to continue in the capacity of serving on the board of the Indianapolis City Market.” Nora Spitznoggle said she is a longtime board member and former market tenant; the committee approved Proposal 144.

All four items were listed on the committee agenda as appointments to the Indianapolis City Market Corporation board. Committee members asked procedural clarifying questions on the Beatty item and indicated support for the Levengood, Mints and Spitznoggle nominations before voting.

Committee Chair Maggie Lewis opened each item for public comment; no members of the public addressed the market board nominations.

The committee recorded the votes as carried on each motion and moved to the next agenda items.
