Senate approves bill requiring annual small-business compliance guide online

Senator Baskin said the guide will ‘‘put our small businesses in a position to succeed’’ by making regulations easier to find and understand. ‘‘This guide that we will publish online annually ... will include all relevant information in layman's terms,’’ she said on the floor. Senator Barela, speaking in support as a small-business owner, said the guide would help owners who lack access to in-house legal or compliance staff and reduce inadvertent violations and associated penalties.
The clerk announced the result as “Ayes 56.” The bill’s final section was read on the floor stating it will take effect immediately (per the read text). No implementation office or specific appropriation was named during floor debate; sponsors described the measure as a publication and outreach requirement for state agencies.
