Lorain City Schools named a NAM Best Community for Music Education

Superintendent Ross announced at the May 12 board meeting that Lorain City Schools was recognized for the first time as a Best Community for Music Education by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAM). Ross said the award recognizes districts and schools that demonstrate "an exceptionally high commitment to and access to music education." He credited music staff and community supporters and said Angelo Corteke (transcript spelling) led the application; Corteke was expected to present at an upcoming board meeting.
Ross noted that neighboring districts also received recognition: Oberlin for the thirteenth consecutive year and Avon for a second consecutive year. The district's vocal and instrumental music staff were singled out for praise at the meeting.
The board congratulated the music team and asked the superintendent to arrange a fuller presentation at a future meeting.
