Wake County deputies mark National Police Week, announce candlelight vigil

Deputies from the Wake County Sheriff’s Office appeared at the Wake County Board of Commissioners’ May 12 work session to recognize National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day.
The deputies said they were representing Sheriff Willie Rowe, who could not attend because of a family medical matter. A deputy said the county will observe National Police Week May 11–17 and noted a candlelight vigil planned for the evening of May 13 at dusk, “usually this time of year around 08:30.” The deputies said the county remembers officers who have died in the line of duty and that eight Wake County officers’ names are etched on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.
Commissioners thanked the deputies for sharing the timing and location of the vigil and for the department’s service. No board action was taken; the appearance was informational.
