Waynoka principals report spring events, student honors and extracurricular successes

School leaders reported on spring activities and student achievements at the Waynoka Public Schools board meeting.

Elementary and early-childhood highlights included a Pre-K and kindergarten field trip to the Oklahoma Aquarium on May 5 and an April visit to Leonardo’s; an elementary spring music and band concert; and participation at the Kiwanis track meet on April 25, where several elementary students earned ribbons and two students received a silver show award. Staff organized Ag Safety Day (May 1) for third and fourth graders in Alba covering farm equipment, ATV safety, seat-belt use, fire and sun safety and first-aid basics.

FFA (Future Farmers of America) students attended state convention; the district’s livestock judging team qualified for state competition by finishing in the top 50. Students received state degrees, including Olivia Seaman, Marley Pinson and Rauda Nicks. Coaches and staff noted the team’s success at the regional and state levels.

High school athletics also qualified multiple athletes for state competition: the 4x100 relay team (listed participants Bradley Beck, Briley Beck, Shane Wilson and Temperance Bozieden) and individual qualifiers in long jump, high jump, 100- and 200-meter events. Coaches Slater and Westfall were acknowledged for their work and for upgraded athletic facilities.

Graduation for the Class of 2025 was described as successful; the principal report stated that graduates accumulated more than $250,000 in scholarship awards. The board also heard that the National Honor Society inducted seven students from the top 10% of the high school class.

Upcoming or recent events noted included the end-of-year banquet, awards assemblies for pre-K through sixth grade (May 13) and the start of driver’s education under Coach Westfall, with 14 students enrolled.

The principals thanked parents, grandparents and community sponsors for support of field trips and school programs.
