CIB gets updates on Lucas Oil projects, sustainability work and hotel/stadium construction plans

Eric, speaking for Lucas Oil Stadium operations, said crews were working on multiple projects simultaneously, including an upgrade to the venue’s distributed antenna system, electrical work and AV/security projects. "This is a month full of projects," Eric said, and noted staff had used a recent lull to activate outdoor balcony spaces and accommodate events such as a Colts Draft Party and the mini marathon expo.
Heidi, who has led the new sustainability initiative, described progress on a CIB green program. She said the team is forming an internal green team, that some shows had improved their corporate sustainability scores after working with CIB staff, and that CIB is collaborating with Visit Indy and other facilities. Heidi also described a donation program that channels unclaimed cell phones to a 9-1-1 cell phone bank; the devices are wiped and distributed via IMPD to support domestic-violence victims.
Andy Mallon updated the board on construction projects. He said the Zignia hotel construction is progressing at roughly a floor a week and that staff have conducted tours for the mayor and councilors. "We selected Populous," Mallon said when announcing a designer for a proposed soccer stadium, citing the firm’s experience. He described the procedural posture for the soccer project: the budget committee of the state legislature must meet within 45 days of the end of the general assembly, and the project team is working to have language approved by the committee and the budget agency. Mallon said design work must begin in order to meet a target stadium-readiness date in 2028 but that full design completion would depend on legislative approvals.
Board members were invited to building tours after the meeting; staff said stadium and convention calendars will continue to constrain availability around the football schedule.
