Sedgwick County staff outline safety, traffic and fee plan for "Somewhere Fest" downtown event June 13-14

Organizers of "Somewhere Fest" have asked Sedgwick County to allow use of the Pullman parking lot for setup and a two-day art and music festival on June 13–14, staff told commissioners at an agenda-review meeting May 14.
Tanya, who presented the request, said the event is expected to draw 6,500 to 7,000 attendees overall and that the Pullman parking lot portion would likely host up to about 2,400 people across the two festival days. "Somewhere Fest is expected to bring in about 6,500 to 7,000," Tanya said. "...their expectation on the 2 days is that at max, we'll probably have about 2,400, for this parking lot on those 2 days." Organizers plan a weeklong use of the lot for setup and teardown to accommodate staging, porta-potties, a dumpster, a photo booth, roughly 12 food trucks and two bars.
Staff said the sheriff's office, fire department and EMS have coordinated on safety plans. The county will require insurance covering the lot. On-site coverage that staff described includes four sheriff's deputies, four private security officers at entrances, two roaming security staff, and one special security position. The event will have a first-aid station and two water stations. Staff said organizers plan several street closures in coordination with the city.
The county proposed a usage fee of $8.50 (broken down in staff remarks as $6.50 for usage and $2.00 for attendance) and a deposit; staff said organizers have provided insurance. The event's hours would be 4 p.m. to midnight on both days.
Ending: Commissioners discussed the event in agenda review but did not vote; staff said the request will appear on the formal consent agenda for action and that full event plans are in the backup materials.
