Boulder presents climate initiatives roadmap: targets, resilience and wildfire priorities

Jonathan, director of partnerships and the staff liaison to the Environmental Advisory Board, presented an overview of the City of Boulder’s Climate Initiatives department work, targets and near-term priorities, telling board members how departmental strategy ties programmatic work to Council policy requests.

Jonathan described three broad departmental workstreams — energy systems, nature-based solutions, and cross-cutting programs — and explained why staff are shifting some emphasis from narrowly counting metric tons of carbon to measuring broader community impacts such as health, equity and resilience.

The presentation reiterated numeric targets the department uses to guide planning: community-wide emissions reduction targets (a 70% reduction goal by 2030 from the relevant baseline) and renewable electricity and local-generation milestones.…
