The district stated an M&O budget of about $118 million, unrestricted capital around $8.5 million, a bond allowance of $75 million and total committed spending of roughly $242 million (encumbrances and commitments, not projected cash expenditures).
JTED IGA: The board approved renewal of the intergovernmental agreement with Pima County JTED (District 11) but several members expressed concern about perceived one-sided development of the IGA and a lack of transparency on funding. One board member said, “we’re watching,” and the approved motion included that caveat. District staff and board members indicated ongoing monitoring of the JTED relationship.
University of Arizona IGA and dual enrollment: The board approved an IGA with the Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of the University of Arizona to provide qualified students access to specific courses including Introduction to Engineering (ENGR 102) and molecular and cellular biology courses (MCB 101/102). The board also approved a bifurcation of dual-enrollment fees that separates Pima Community College charges from other dual-enrollment course fees after PCC raised its D2L (learning platform) fee. District staff said roughly 500 students participate annually in dual-enrollment programs; the district generated about $26,000 in dual-enrollment fees this year.
Other approvals: The board approved a consent agenda (with items h6 and h11 pulled for separate discussion), approved offering contracts to principals for 2025–26, and approved a slate of new staffing positions for 2025–26 including classroom and specialist positions. The board also moved to an executive session under cited Arizona statute for negotiations at the meeting's close.
Several items prompted brief discussion but passed with typical motions and seconds. The meeting also included resolutions honoring retirees and presentations recognizing staff of the year and teacher of the year.
The board did not take immediate action on teacher compensation during this meeting; teacher pay and retention were raised during public comment.
