Cannon County school board approves four-year director contract, FY26 budget and facility and service purchases

The Cannon County Board of Education on May 8 approved a four-year contract for the district's director, adopted the district's general-purpose budget for fiscal year 2026 and approved multiple operational items including an HVAC purchase and an athletic training services contract.
The board voted to approve the director's second contract for a four-year term. The motion was made by Mister Veil and seconded by Mister McMackins; the roll call was announced as three ayes and one pass (Miss Curtis recorded a pass). The board then approved its May 8 agenda, the consent agenda (which included personnel and one out-of-state FFA trip to Camp Clements, Dole, Tenn.), and granted tenure to a slate of qualified teachers.
The board approved Resolution BOE 24-25 Number 7 by voice vote after a motion by Mister Veil and a second by Miss Thomas. It also approved a resolution meeting the Education Freedom Act teacher-bonus requirement; the board approved the specific resolution as read and voted to table any further discussion about adding additional bonuses until the June meeting (motion by Miss Thomas; second by Mister McMackins).
The board adopted the FY26 general-purpose budget after a motion by Miss Trammell and a second by Miss Thomas. The meeting record shows the budget motion passed on roll call with four ayes. The board approved the purchase of a 15-ton water-source rooftop unit for the CCES/CCMS cafeteria for $37,387 (motion by Mister McMackins; second by Miss Thomas) and accepted a one-year bid for athletic training services at Cannon County High School with Star Physical Therapy for $32,000 for the 2025-26 school year (motion by Miss Thomas; second by Miss Trammell).
The board approved review of school board policies numbered 06/2000 through 06/2010 and authorized participation in federal programs for the 2025-26 school year. Two facility items were tabled to the June meeting for additional information: a proposed donation and installation of flooring in the football field house and the removal of cabinetry in Room 308 at Cannon County Middle School to accommodate CTE furniture and equipment. Both tabling motions were made to allow further verification and information and were approved unanimously among members present.
The board made routine announcements about graduations and summer programs and then adjourned.
