District negotiators and representatives of the Thompson Education Association (TEA) reported they reached tentative consensus May 7 on multiple bargaining topics after multi‑day sessions April 28–30 and follow‑up work.
What was negotiated: district and TEA negotiators said they reached agreement on a suite of items including adjustments to licensed salary schedules (compensation), increases to extra‑duty pay (athletics and activities), an expansion of elementary planning time (24 additional hours annually averaged across the year), clarified leave and donated‑leave procedures, and revisions to problem‑solving and grievance documentation and workflow.
Behavior and referrals: negotiators said they will create a task force to redesign the discipline/referral workflow (currently in Infinite Campus) to reduce reporting burden, allow clearer follow‑up, and make the process usable by classified staff. The district said it will also expand mandatory staff training modules and link reporting to follow‑up procedures so teachers receive clearer closure on incidents.
TEA release time and staffing: the agreement includes a change to the TEA president release arrangement so the union president can have full release time (district and association sharing the cost) rather than a half release while also teaching part‑time. Negotiators said language clarifies ongoing site‑based shared decision making and other procedural items.
Ratification and board action: negotiators said a tentative agreement was signed by bargaining leads and will be distributed to TEA members for ratification. TEA members must vote yes by the ratification deadline (staff targeted return by the May 21 meeting). If TEA members ratify the tentative agreement, the district will present the agreement to the board for final approval.
Ending: both sides emphasized the cross‑party work of the interest‑based bargaining team and said the agreements were the product of extended meetings and data review.
