The Xenia City Council voted May 8 to approve Ordinance 2025-10, authorizing the city to participate in a joint negotiation process with other regional municipalities through the Miami Valley Communications consortium for electric and maintenance services related to public street lighting.
City staff said the city's previous 10-year contract produced through the consortium is expiring at year'end and that joint negotiation through the consortium is the statutorily prescribed method for pursuing a collective utility contract. The city manager described the ordinance as a step to continue collectively negotiating electric service and maintenance for street lighting; staff said the contract length would be determined through the procurement process.
Council opened and closed a public hearing on the ordinance; no members of the public spoke. The council then approved the ordinance by recorded vote.
Staff said the ordinance complies with state statute governing joint procurement and consortium participation; the city will participate in the collective negotiation and a future contract will set final term length and price schedules.
