Staff materials stated the UUD is intended to improve neighborhood aesthetics by removing overhead power lines and poles, and to reduce some infrastructure vulnerabilities. During public comment several callers expressed safety concerns about underground utilities — citing potential for excavation strikes, flooding, and impacts to other buried infrastructure — and asked detailed questions about project cost and elements of the county’s technical review.
Supervisors moved and seconded the action; the board approved the item unanimously. Staff said a public hearing is set (May 21) to consider the ordinance establishing the UUD formation process and next steps for design and funding. Several callers asked the county to share more detail about costs and construction impacts prior to final formation.
