Commission reviews Wisconsin Historical Society online training; coordinator offers in-person session

The Janesville Historic Commission reviewed an online training program offered by the Wisconsin Historical Society and discussed how to use it for new and returning members.

Staff noted the training is chapter-based and mostly text; the program was added to the meeting packet for members to review at their own pace. Jason Tisch, the Certified Local Government (CLG) program coordinator at the state level, was identified as a contact who has offered to deliver in-person training for the commission if needed. Commissioners agreed to review Chapter 1 ahead of the next meeting and suggested assigning individual chapters to members for feedback to streamline review.

Mackenzie Wilcox and staff explained that the state has largely moved training online to ease updates when statutes or policies change. Mr. Tisch’s offer to come to Janesville could supplement the online materials where commissioners prefer live instruction.
