The El Centro City Council on Tuesday authorized staff to solicit proposals for routine janitorial services that would cover three recreation facilities plus the police station under a consolidated procurement.
Community Service Director Adriana Nava and staff told the council the current contract with Work Training Center covers the community center, adult center and the Old Post Office Pavilion at a current annual cost of $42,336; the police station will be newly included in the upcoming procurement because it is under construction and will need services once occupied.
Nava said the city supplies chemicals and towels and the contractor supplies labor; the new procurement will include a site visit for proposers and special scope items such as high‑rise window cleaning — an item typically subcontracted because it requires specialized equipment and insurance. The procurement will follow the city’s five‑year rotation for janitorial contracts and the process will return to council for award and funding allocation when proposals are evaluated.
Council approved the request to issue a request for proposals and to permit the joint solicitation with the police department on a voice vote of 5‑0.
