Resident urges county to study living-wage impacts on Main Street during HR meeting

Walters said he and his wife reviewed living-wage data for Sullivan County and reported a living wage for a single person of $23.01 per hour and for a family of four with one adult working and two children of $43.10 per hour (which Walters said equates to nearly $90,000 annually). He said those figures include childcare and that rising childcare costs reduce residents’ discretionary spending on Main Street. Walters said he would raise health-care topics in a forthcoming meeting.
Committee members acknowledged the comment but did not take action on living-wage policy during the meeting.
