County seeks Greene County employers to host summer TANF-funded youth work experience

A workforce program representative told the board the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)–funded program places eligible students into summer work experiences; wages are paid through the TANF grant so local employers are reimbursed for payroll. The presenter said the program typically serves about 50 students in each county and noted some Greene County businesses that have hosted interns in the past are unable to participate this year because of their own transitions.
The representative listed placements in a range of positions in prior years, including insurance offices, drive-ins, food service and municipal roles, and said many participants have been hired by those employers after the summer. Board members asked about ages and job types; staff said placement can be for a variety of roles and encouraged board members to share employer leads.
No formal vote or binding action was recorded; staff said they will distribute more exact participation numbers and outreach information in coming days.
