The Lakeville Board of Health on May 7 held a public hearing and voted to increase three health-related fees: septic “perk” tests, tobacco inspections and camp permits.
Chairman Derek Maxim opened the public hearing with a reading of the legal notice and board members heard a staff summary of the proposed changes before voting to adopt them. The board recorded unanimous support for the changes during the meeting at the Lakeville Police Station, 323 Bedford Street.
Ed, the Board of Health agent, said the board and staff reviewed fees after finding some charges were lower than neighboring towns and certain Town costs had increased. He summarized the changes: the perk‑test fee will be set at $150 for repairs and $300 for a new septic system (the previous fee had been $150 for a three‑hour visit); tobacco inspection fees will rise from $30 to $75; and camp permits will increase from $10 to $150. Ed told the board that past camp permits covered mostly small local camps, while current summers bring larger, for‑profit and out‑of‑town camps that require more staff time for permitting.
Board members moved to adopt the three fee changes and then closed the hearing. The board recorded ayes on the motions and proceeded with other business on the agenda.
The fees will be included in the Board of Health’s fee schedule; the board did not remove any existing fee categories during the vote. The board did not state a specific effective date during the hearing.
