Michael Phipps Russell, president and executive director of Loving All Animals, told the Parks and Community Events Commission on May 6 that the nonprofit will underwrite two free spay and neuter clinics for Cathedral City residents at the Mary Pickford Amphitheater on June 17 and June 18.
Russell said the clinics will be free to Cathedral City residents and that the organization is partnering with Animal Action League as the surgical services provider. Each clinic will schedule 30 animals, he said; the clinics will include vaccinations, microchipping and either a dog collar or cat collar with an engraved pet ID tag. Russell credited fundraising support from a donor event called Dinner with Patsy for covering a substantial portion of the cost.
Russell said they expect to accommodate some larger dogs (he estimated about six between 30 and 60 pounds) and approximately 24 smaller dogs under 30 pounds as part of the capacity planning. He said prior clinics have filled quickly — one recent clinic filled in under 20 minutes — and asked residents to reserve early. Staff confirmed organizers’ contact information was provided to the commission.
No formal action by the commission was required or taken; the announcement came during the public comment portion of the meeting. Staff and commissioners thanked Russell and noted city support for outreach to ensure residents receive reservation details.
