Middletown Area SD board approves minutes, bills and multiple consent items; proclaims Teacher Appreciation Week

The Middletown Area School District Board of School Directors on May 20 approved routine governance items including minutes from the April 15 meeting, paid and unpaid bills, and a slate of personnel and administrative consent items. The board also adopted a resolution proclaiming May 2025 as Teacher Appreciation Week.
The board approved the minutes from the April 15, 2025 general business meeting after a motion and second. Treasurer business included approval of paid bills and unpaid bills by voice vote. Multiple groups of immediate action items across personnel, academic affairs, finance and athletics were approved as consent motions. A future action item to appoint a school board secretary for a four-year term and the annual school board treasurer appointment were placed on the May 22 agenda. The board also noted a change in the PSBA delegate assembly that would require in-person attendance at Kalahari on a Tuesday and said it will consider whether to appoint delegates.
The meeting included a motion to move a list of guest teachers to the consent agenda for the 2024–25 school year through a substitute teacher service; the board approved immediate action items for personnel and other administrative areas (listed in the agenda as items 8BA–8EF, 9BA–9BD, 10AA–10AAH, 11AA–11AC and 12AA–12AE). The public record and meeting comments did not read individual contract or candidate names aloud beyond noting they appeared on the agenda.
The board adopted a resolution presented by the academic affairs representative proclaiming May 2025 as Teacher Appreciation Week and extending the board’s gratitude to district teachers. The motion to adopt the resolution carried by voice vote.
Dr. Hunter, a district staff member who led the meeting recognitions earlier in the agenda, complimented students and families after the approvals, saying, “Just a couple things wrapping up the meeting. Super awesome kids this meeting.”
