Representatives of the Lake Oswego Meal Network Advisory Board presented a donation check of $28,454 to the City Council to cover the annual deficit in the city’s Meals on Wheels program.
At the meeting Judy Hathaway spoke on behalf of the advisory board and introduced board members in the audience, saying the board raises funds to make up the difference between program revenue and the actual cost incurred by the city for meal delivery, respite care and dining room services. “This amount varies from year to year and is dependent upon many factors, including the number of meals delivered, the respite care program, and dining room service,” Hathaway said.
Hathaway listed board members in attendance and noted the group conducts at least five annual fundraising events to sustain the program. The council thanked the board for the donation and highlighted the program’s importance for seniors and its role in addressing social needs such as companionship and reducing isolation.
Councilors and staff said the donation keeps the program sustainable and acknowledged Meals on Wheels volunteers and fundraisers for enabling seniors to remain in their homes. The meeting included a photo opportunity and council thanks for the volunteer efforts.
The donation amount presented on the record was $28,454.
