Town staff outlines AI policy process and upcoming IT governance hire

The same staff speaker described operational steps taken so far: an internal chatbot on the town website has been tested with staff and performs neighborhood permit lookups and answers basic permit questions. “Works very well,” the staff member said, adding that the town’s developers have been coordinating with the PIO office and other departments to test the chatbot.
Staff also told the commission that the town is advertising for an IT governance and security officer; once hired, that person will help finalize governance documents and perform yearly or biennial policy reviews, with AI listed among areas needing regular updates.
The commission asked that staff share timelines and consult with department stakeholders as policies are drafted. The staff member said education will accompany policy work and that the town will demonstrate AI tools with real, department‑level examples during training sessions.
