Historic Landmark Commission members and staff recognized as longtime commissioner steps down, staff member departs

Commissioner Justin announced at the May 20, 2025 Boerne Historic Landmark Commission meeting that he is stepping down after 16 years of service. The commission and City of Boerne staff recognized his service and presented a parting gift that included locally themed items and historical mementos. Paul Barwick, who identified himself as a longtime staff liaison, and other commissioners spoke in appreciation of Justin’s tenure and contribution to local preservation efforts.
Frank Linder (Planning Department) and other staff members noted Justin’s long service, his role in past projects including a historic-district survey and design guidelines work, and his efforts to balance preservation with private property rights. The exchange included light remarks referencing Kendall County history and local artifacts presented to Justin.
Later in the meeting, staff member Heather announced she has accepted a new position as executive assistant to the chief and assistant chiefs in the Boerne Fire Department and that the May meeting would be her last with the planning department. Commissioners thanked Heather for her service and wished her well in the new role.
Both personnel items were presented as agenda item 2025-199 and a later staff announcement; they required no formal commission vote.
