Sarpy County commissioners approve road contracts, parking repairs, liquor-license recommendation and a deputy staffing extension

Sarpy County commissioners on May 6, 2025, voted unanimously to approve supplemental professional services and construction contracts for county pavement projects, award a parking-lot repair contract, recommend a liquor license application to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission, and preserve a corrections employee’s sworn deputy status.

The board approved a $56,620 supplement to a previously approved engineering services agreement with Schummer Associates for construction administration work on the county’s asphalt overlays project (Project C77-24-01). County engineering staff tied the administration supplement to the earlier engineering agreement the board authorized in October 2024.

The board also awarded the construction contract for the various asphalt overlays (Project C77-24-01) to Oldcastle Materials Midwest Company, doing business as Omni Engineering, for the low bid of $853,896.15. County staff said work is expected to begin in June and be completed within 25 working days, with an anticipated completion date no later than Aug. 7, 2025 — the first day of school for Bellevue Public Schools. On a separate agenda item the board voted to forward a recommendation to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission to issue a license for Tiburon Golf Club LLC, manager Robert Hill, for an addition of a small clubhouse and pool at 10302 S. 160th Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68136. The recommendation was approved without discussion.

At the Board of Corrections meeting that immediately followed, the commissioners approved Resolution 2025-101 to preserve Deputy Larry Sellers' status as a sworn deputy sheriff while he works at the Sarpy County Jail. Corrections director Joe Martin told the board Sellers has worked for the county 38 years and the appointment would extend Sellers' sworn status to remain in effect until his retirement; the appointment was noted to take effect July 1 (the prior short-term appointment had been set to end June 30).
