District finance staff gave a detailed update on bond balances, remaining project costs and contract recommendations during the May 8 session.
The packet reported a bond balance of about $48.34 million as of April 30 after prior issuances and expenses; with an additional $20 million to be issued the district would have approximately $69.94 million available before assigning new project totals. Remaining projects listed included Majestic Fields (minor closeout items), Crimson Middle (approx. $5.3 million remaining), Crimson High (approx. $35.1 million remaining) and architectural/engineering contingencies shared across the middle and high projects.
Staff said some contractor billings covered work on both middle and high projects simultaneously, which complicates exact itemization. The Laverkin site has about $500,000 budgeted for site work under contract; staff noted the site is being prepared well ahead of any actual construction date and may not host a school for many years.
On construction procurement, district staff reported they received bids for the Snow Canyon track and field contract and recommended the award to Hughes as the responsive low bidder after reviewing subs and markups. Staff explained one bidder (Haas/Hughes?) came in higher and that Hughes' bid was lower in both base price and markup; the difference was primarily a contractor markup schedule and schedule constraints requiring summer completion because the track is currently in poor condition.
The finance update concluded with an estimate that roughly $4.57 million would roll toward future bond projects after current allocations. The board did not take final action on bond issuance or contract awards during the work session; staff said they will bring formal award and budget motions in a future public meeting for approval.
