District advances proposed boundary adjustments for 3 Falls area, weighs safety and bus routing for Riverside families

Staff said recent growth north of the Walmart and around Dixie Springs has increased student counts in existing boundaries. To consolidate dual-immersion students on a single bus and relieve crowding, the recommendation is to redraw lines so about 60–72 children (including Sand Hollow and Pecan Ridge areas) are assigned to 3 Falls; staff said that number fits on a single bus and improves program capacity planning.
Rex (district staff) said the district has met parents multiple times and plans one additional meeting before finalizing the boundary. Board members agreed a June meeting with parents would be appropriate before a final action.
Parents from Riverside raised safety concerns about children crossing a busy road where signal timing and a school crossing are still under design. Staff said the city and traffic engineers have been consulted; options include crosswalk improvements, school-flashing lights and a crossing guard, but some mitigations depend on traffic-signal thresholds that change with development. The district also noted that many families in the area currently drive children to school; staff acknowledged that for some families morning logistics are difficult and said a special bus assignment could be a temporary solution.
No boundary change was finalized at the work session. Staff said they will meet again with parents in June and return to the board with a proposed boundary to be considered as an action item.
