Cook Family Park, pool and splash pad nearing completion; city schedules Memorial Day grand opening

Neil, a city staff member who oversees public-works updates, and Dion, who described user reactions to the park, said the park has already drawn large family use and that recent pours completed the splash pad and moved the pavilion and parking-lot work forward. "We had multiple people come up and tell us thank you for this amazing park that's changed their families," Dion said. Staff said the splash pad concrete has been poured and that pavilion erection and parking-lot paving were scheduled as weather permits.
On the pool, staff said they expect to begin filling the pool at the end of the week to begin water testing and that county inspections are scheduled next week. Megan, the recreation presenter, said coping stones and other finishing items are nearly complete; one themed water feature part was delayed in shipping but the pool remains functional for opening. Staff is planning a grand-opening event on Memorial Day evening from 5 to 8 p.m., with free swim, a cardboard regatta, a belly-flop contest, relay races, a DJ and food trucks. "We're planning a grand opening for Memorial Day that evening ... 5 to 8PM. It'll be free swim day," Megan said.
Staff said they plan to open the pool to regular service on Thursday the 22nd at 1:30 p.m. (per the materials presented) and will run the facility over Friday and Saturday. For the new turf at the sports fields, staff recommended delaying organized leagues until the fall to allow the sod to establish; casual public use would be permitted after the grand opening.
Engineering and construction notes: the city said the large pavilion structure is up and that the splash pad mechanical work and remaining concrete are expected to take several more weeks; staff also said they expect to pour the pool parking lot as soon as weather allows. A retaining wall near the park is under construction and staff said it should be complete by the park grand opening.
Staff urged caution around newly installed sod and said they will rotate fields once play begins to avoid early wear. Parking and site access remain in flux while crews complete final work; staff said they will prioritize opening the intersection and adjacent road closures ahead of Strawberry Days.
Next steps: county inspections and remaining mechanical work remain scheduled; staff will notify council and the public when the pool—s operational hours are confirmed in the final schedule.
