The Prince George's County Department of the Environment told the council on May 6 it proposes a $7.3 million departmental capital budget for FY26 and a separate stormwater management CIP of $102,000,000 covering 14 projects.
Alex Hertel, presenting the department's budget, said the department is implementing federal and state mandates addressing stormwater quality improvements, impervious area management and stream restoration. "The fiscal year 20 26 for stormwater management is proposed expenditure budget of a hundred and $2,000,000," Hertel said, noting that total project costs for stormwater CIP are approximately $1.4 billion across the department's portfolio.
Council members asked for a geographic breakdown of countywide stormwater funding and a map identifying individual projects. One council member asked whether countywide dollars were being equitably distributed after noting some districts had few identified projects; Hertel said the department would work with the Department of Public Works and Transportation and provide a spread of projects across the county.
No formal action was taken at the session. Officials said they would coordinate with DPW&T to provide maps and further analysis showing where countywide stormwater funds are being invested and how projects are phased and prioritized.
