Commission to prepare MEI update and annual submission for borough council
Summary
Members discussed preparing a Municipal Equality Index (MEI) update and an annual letter to present to borough council and agreed to coordinate who will present and what information to include.
Commissioners agreed to pursue a report to the borough council on the commission’s status with the MEI and to incorporate the CHRC’s annual submission and recent community activities into that update.
During public comment a member asked about the MEI and whether the community knew the commission’s current standing. Commissioners discussed what an update to council should contain, noting they had received little complaint data to report and questioning whether an update should be limited to status information such as “where we are, how many numbers we have, and how we are rated.” One commissioner suggested the report could also summarize the commission’s activities over the past year and plans for upcoming outreach events.
Maddie said she will coordinate scheduling with borough secretary Patricia Blair to place an update on a future council agenda and that the commission would decide who is best to present. Commissioners agreed to combine a verbal MEI status update with their annual letter and to loop other members in once a date is set.
