Carlisle Human Relations Commission to represent CHRC at June 14 Juneteenth event, members to staff table

The Carlisle Human Relations Commission agreed to sign up for a table at a Juneteenth event scheduled for June 14 at Hope Station and said it will organize which commissioners can staff the table.

The decision came after commission member Wanda said she could sign CHRC up for a table and would circulate the registration once she located the invitation form. Wanda told the commission the event is scheduled roughly from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and that she would handle the sign-up and then share scheduling details so members could indicate availability.

Wanda also urged CHRC presence at a separate community “Friendship” dinner series held at rotating locations; she said the next dinner would be at the Hypno Memorial, across from the Y, and described it as a covered-dish event where attendees may come without bringing food. A commission member asked whether attendance at those events is typically in an official organizational capacity or attended individually; Wanda said attendees represent CHRC informally by being present but that most people attend individually.

Members also asked a logistical question about bringing a service dog to a future Friendship Center event hosted by a church. A commissioner said they would be willing to attend on the 29th if the church permitted the service dog and noted that churches sometimes decline; Wanda said she would follow up with the host to confirm whether a service animal would be allowed.

The commission did not hold a formal vote on outreach policy but agreed to the sign-up plan and to coordinate who will staff the Juneteenth table once Wanda completes registration.
