County approves retroactive contract amendment for Green River Road Trail inspection labor classifications

The Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners on May 6 approved a contract amendment to revise the Green River Road Trail inspection agreement after staff discovered additional employee classifications and pay rates were used during construction inspection.
County staff said the original contract listed certain inspector and engineer classifications and pay rates, but the inspector (Versus Engineering) used additional classifications—staff cited a surveyor classification as an example—and billed for them. Because the county did not catch the difference before paying, staff recommended amending the contract retroactively to incorporate the additional classifications and the board approved the change.
Commissioner Gable moved approval; Commissioner Canterbury seconded. The vote was recorded as yes by Commissioner Gable, Commissioner Canterbury and President Elpers.
Staff said the intent had been to hold related billings until the end of the project, but Versus Engineering billed earlier and the county had already paid those invoices; the amendment formalizes the pay rates and classifications now reflected in the invoices.
The amendment was presented as necessary to reconcile invoiced payments with the contract; the board did not discuss a change in total contract value during the public discussion recorded at the meeting.
