City schedules repairs to Dresden Outfall after flood damage; FEMA documentation pending

The Board of Public Works was informed May 15 that the Dresden Outfall Project, substantially complete in December 2024, sustained damage during recent flooding and requires demolition and site repairs.
Project representative Mr. Veil said the headwall, flap gate and main structure remain in acceptable condition but some slumping and ArmorFlex mat failures occurred after the flood. “A new head wall was built. New flap gate installed and, ArmorFlex matting was put down and, everything was fine. We were waiting for our stand of grass this spring and then we had the flooding and it did,” Veil said.
Officials said the Army Corps had required the outfall work because of its location at Pigeon Creek. City staff said they will provide documentation to FEMA to explore available funding for repairs. The board was told the planned procurement will be bid to an outside contractor and that the work is expected to be included in the 2026 budget while FEMA review proceeds.
The board approved the informational item and authorization to proceed with preparations for repair work by voice vote.
