Board approves lease with city, accepts donations and routine consent items

The Grand Rapids Public School District board approved several routine and contract items during its meeting, including minutes, donations, the consent agenda, and a one-year lease with the City of Grand Rapids for athletic facilities.

Minutes and agenda: The board approved the minutes of the April 14, 2025 work session and the April 20, 2025 regular meeting, and approved the meeting agenda by roll-call votes. Motions to approve the minutes and agenda were moved and seconded by board members; roll-call results recorded board members voting yes on the motions.

Donations: The board approved a resolution accepting donations for January ($10,807.47), February ($200.00) and March ($19,858.92). The motion to accept donations passed on a roll-call vote.

Consent agenda: The board approved the consent agenda, described by the chair as routine matters that do not require discussion, by roll-call vote.

Lease with city of Grand Rapids: The board approved a one-year lease agreement with the City of Grand Rapids for the Bob Streeter Baseball Field and the Grand Rapids Sports Complex. Superintendent Gross described the lease as consistent with prior agreements, noted the annual amount reflects a roughly 3% increase over last year, and said the district has the authority to levy for a portion of facility lease costs — about 87% of the lease is eligible to be levied; the remainder is paid from the general fund. Board members discussed that the lease covers operational and maintenance costs (ice, Zamboni, field maintenance) in addition to facility use.

All motions were approved by roll-call vote. No item on the agenda was tabled or failed.
