Isanti County wins bridge and road grants, approves multiple highway contracts and equipment purchase

The board approved a resolution (25-13-05) authorizing the county to enter MnDOT grant agreement number 1059172 for state project 030-598-004. - The board approved a Local Road Improvement Program (LRIP) grant agreement (MnDOT grant number 1059249) for $500,000 to support a County Road 3 project east of Delano, to offset local costs. Construction activity (tree grubbing and earthwork) was already underway, Bergerson said.
Equipment and contracts: - Sign truck purchase: The board authorized buying a 2026 Freightliner M2 chassis and remounting the existing sign-truck body and crane to save costs. The chassis quote was $108,021.82 (subtotal $115,448.32 with taxes/fees); remount and refurbishment costs were added. Bergerson said remounting the existing body and crane avoids an estimated $50,000–$60,000 extra cost for a full new build and keeps the county within its 2025 capital budget using wheelage tax funds. - Countywide seal coat: The board awarded the annual seal-coating/pavement-preservation contract to Allied Blacktop Company, low bidder, for $481,704.62 to seal 18.24 miles of county highways. - Pavement markings: The board approved a pavement-marking quote from Sir Lineslot LLC (apparent low bidder) at $22.80 per gallon for white and yellow latex paint, for a contract amount up to $156,180 (approximately 185 lane miles of markings).
Why it matters: The grants offset local capital costs for a bridge replacement and a major road-improvement project and the equipment/contract awards are part of routine road maintenance and preservation that protect the county’s transportation asset base.
Board action and financing: Commissioners said they appreciated creative procurement (remounting the existing truck body) and noted overall construction pricing appears to be leveling off or improving. Staff said the sign-truck purchase will be funded from wheelage tax capital and that overall 2025 highway expenditures should remain within budget.
