Commissioners highlight community events and honor long‑service county employees

Osceola County commissioners used their remarks time May 5 to announce community events and recognize long-serving county employees.
Commissioner Arrington said the district hosted a scholarship luncheon in Poinciana, a Fire Station 43 groundbreaking and attended the opening of a nursing program at Florida Technical College; he also thanked staff for a tree giveaway that distributed roughly 350 trees and noted a free microchipping event scheduled May 31. Commissioner Booth described a separate tree and plant giveaway in downtown St. Cloud that distributed about 500 trees and 200 plants and highlighted an Adopt-a-Senior gift-card program providing $500 awards to graduating seniors in need.
Commissioner Chaudhry described student outreach to the County Emergency Management training facility and said the county’s student committee produced social-media content that reached thousands. Commissioner Grieve and Commissioner Booth also announced upcoming senior-focused community meetings in their districts and a tour with a U.S. congressman of affordable-housing sites, including Cameron Preserve.
During the meeting the board recognized county employees for milestone service anniversaries. Human Resources announced staff celebrating 10 years of service (Brenda Lorenzo, Communications Department; Daryl Fromit, Public Works), 25 years (Olga Torres, Board of County Commissioners and County Manager's Office) and four employees with 35 years of service who received the Spirit of Osceola Award: Ted Phillips (Procurement Services Manager / earlier service in road and bridge and IT), Bruce Smith (Road and Bridge), Tina Statlander (Development Review / Community Development) and Daryl Beth Stutz (Mosquito Control). The recognitions included short biographies and presentation of awards on the dais.
Commissioners encouraged residents to attend district events: microchipping and senior community focus groups, and a student committee end-of-school-year event at the H2O water park (registration required). No policy actions or budget appropriations were taken as part of these announcements.
